Huawei Launches Open-Source Cloud Platform FusionCloud

- Accelerates carrier cloud development with OpenStack capability

BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today launched FusionCloud, a next-generation open-source cloud computing solution that is fully compatible with OpenStack software. Developed in response to the industry trend towards openness and standardization, FusionCloud will enable carrier organizations to establish agile, efficient and open cloud platforms and services.

FusionCloud features three core components, namely FusionSphere, FusionCube and FusionAccess. FusionSphere is a Huawei-developed cloud operating system and an integral component of Huawei's innovative next-generation Distributed Cloud Data Center (DC square) architecture. FusionSphere is capable of integrating IT infrastructures from different vendors, and can run unified resources scheduling, which enhances data center efficiency without vendor-lock-in.

FusionCube is a converged infrastructure that integrates computing, storage, and network capabilities. Featuring fast setup, scalability, and improved performance, FusionCube is an optimal way for carriers to establish data centers or branch infrastructures.

Huawei believes that cloud services only bring value when users enjoy effective and seamless cloud connections. A key feature of FusionCloud, FusionAccess ensures effective and seamless cloud connection, allowing users to conveniently access cloud services and applications from terminals over fixed or mobile networks, while providing improved security.

Since joining the OpenStack Foundation in October 2012, Huawei has participated actively and made significant progress in the development of OpenStack-based cloud computing solutions. Huawei's FusionCloud solution leverages OpenStack's openness, scalability and ease of implementation in order to help carrier organizations meet rapidly-increasing service requirements through fast and flexible deployment. FusionCloud also ensures efficient operation of telecom services and key applications through services, including backup and disaster recovery, live migration, resource scheduling across data centers, customized telecom cloud services, and distributed storage engines.

"Telecom services require low latency, high reliability, and high performance," said Ren Zhipeng, General Manager, Cloud Computing Product Line, Huawei. "Leveraging our experience in working with 45 of the top 50 global carriers, Huawei fully understands the needs and challenges of carriers in cloud computing deployment. We know that in addition to satisfying customer needs and service requirements based on speed, a reliable and unified management platform is required to ensure the efficient operation of core services. With complete OpenStack compatibility, we are confident that FusionCloud represents the optimal cloud computing solution for carrier organizations."

Huawei is one of the world's leading cloud computing solutions provider and has been working closely with over 200 customers in 42 countries on cloud adoption in commercial corporations. Huawei has also deployed the world's largest desktop cloud in its internal implementation for 70,000 active users. Playing an active role in open-source communities, Huawei has been sharing its findings in open-source research over the past years, and is among one of the top companies who has made the greatest contributions to the development of the global Hadoop community.
