Gazzang Delivers Encryption and Key Management Support for OpenStack

Gazzang, the big data security experts, today announced its encryption and key management solutions can protect sensitive data in GlusterFS-backed OpenStack public and private clouds. The announcement follows today's launch of the OpenIncubate accelerator program by Austin Ventures, Battery Ventures and The Valley Fund, an initiative formed in part to address the growing prominence of open source initiatives such as OpenStack. Gazzang is backed by Austin Ventures.

Gazzang provides high-performance transparent data encryption and key management for organizations running GlusterFS-backed OpenStack clouds. Encryption keys are isolated from the data and managed by a policy-based key server that enables the data owners – not cloud or system admins – to control the keys. The solution enables OpenStack users to meet security initiatives for compliance and personally identifiable information and adds additional protection to prevent unauthorized users and processes from accessing encrypted data.

“Data security and compliance are often significant considerations for organizations considering a move to cloud architectures such as OpenStack,” said Sam Heywood, vice president of marketing at Gazzang. “The combination of transparent data encryption and advanced key management built to run in massively scalable cloud environments provides a powerful deterrent against unauthorized data access and theft, and enables organizations to meet strict regulatory compliance initiatives.”

Enterprise organizations around the world are deploying Gazzang data security solutions in their clouds environments to encrypt and secure personally identifiable information and meet strict regulatory compliance initiatives including:

  • HIPAA-HITECH
  • PCI-DSS
  • FERPA
  • FIPS
  • EU Data Protection Directive

OpenStack powers some of the most widely-used SaaS applications and eCommerce sites, the world’s largest public clouds, and Global 1000 enterprises, each of which rely on OpenStack to run their businesses every day. The open source cloud platform controls pools of compute, storage and networking resources at massive scale, making them available via a self-service dashboard. It is backed by an independent Foundation and global community with more than 8,800 members representing 850 unique organizations across 114 countries.

Where many organizations get into trouble, however, is that they try to have a broad and deep knowledge in each of these areas. This is a huge blow to an organization's productivity. By automating or outsourcing some of these pieces, such as databases, infrastructure, and networks, your team can instead focus on development, testing, and deployment. Further, organizations that focus their attention on these areas can eventually move to a test-driven development structure that condenses several l...
The term "digital transformation" (DX) is being used by everyone for just about any company initiative that involves technology, the web, ecommerce, software, or even customer experience. In his opening keynote, Four Essentials To Become DX Hero Status Now, Jonathan Hoppe, Co-Founder and CTO of Total Uptime Technologies, shared that ...

The most common myths about blockchain include the assumption that it is private, or that there is only one blockchain, and the idea that blockchain is...
Never mind that we might not know what the future holds for cryptocurrencies and how much values will fluctuate or even how the process of mining a coin could cost as much as the value of the coin itself - cryptocurrency mining is a hot industry and shows no signs of slowing down. However, energy consumption to mine cryptocurrency is one of the biggest issues facing this industry. Burning huge amounts of electricity isn't incidental to cryptocurrency, it's basically embedded in the core of "mini...
