Cumulus Linux Network OS Brings Modern Data Center Networking to the Enterprise

Cumulus Networks®, the company bringing the power of Linux to networking, today announced the availability of Cumulus Linux 2.2. This release adds support for a new hardware architecture along with new features for operational efficiency, empowering customers with more choice, ease and flexibility for modern data center solutions. Just one year after its introduction, Cumulus Linux now supports 16 hardware platforms, two CPU architectures and five vendors – giving customers the power to build the data center around their specific needs, while not being tied to one vendor.

“Cumulus Linux 2.2 is another milestone towards fulfilling the promise of an open ecosystem within the data center,” said Shrijeet Mukherjee, VP Engineering Cumulus Networks. “We continue to demonstrate strong execution to our existing customers while bringing our solution to a new audience of enterprise customers looking for choice, rapid application integration and more flexibility with modern data center designs.”

Cumulus Linux 2.2 marks the beginning of a journey for modern enterprise data center networking with an enterprise-ready Linux networking experience. It also responds to existing customer demand for even simpler application development on the Cumulus Linux operating system, bringing Cumulus Linux as a platform to a new level of flexibility.

Cumulus Linux 2.2 brings support for:

    • Turnkey infrastructure as a service (IaaS) integration with MetaCloud OpenStack® private cloud

"In the process of building our new data center, we looked for solutions that could scale to meet our ever growing demand for data. The Cumulus Networks solution exceeded our expectations. Not only did the team provide world-class support and professional services, we’ve also built the solution we wanted from the start, one that scales, and that is automated. Now turning up the network on a new pod, from loading dock to production, takes us less than 20 minutes! ” — Pam Lyra, VP Customer Satisfaction and SaaS Operations at Axcient, a leading provider of cloud-based Recovery-as-a-Service. "Cumulus Linux 2.2, powering our new Penguin Arctica 4806XP switch, meets the growing customer demand for an open 10/40 Gigabit Ethernet networking fabric with the ease and flexibility of an x86/Linux application environment. Our customers deploying High Performance Compute clusters and Scale-out Data Center architectures find this invaluable and empowering." — Jussi Kukkonen, Director of Product Management at Penguin Computing, Inc.

About Cumulus Networks

Cumulus Networks is bringing the Linux revolution to networking. Founded by veteran networking engineers from Cisco and VMware, Cumulus Networks makes the first Linux operating system for networking hardware and fills a critical gap in realizing the true promise of the software-defined data center. Just as Linux completely transformed the economics and innovation on the server side of the data center, Cumulus Linux is doing the same for the network. It is radically reducing the costs and complexities of operating modern data center networks for service providers and enterprises. Cumulus Networks has received venture funding from Andreessen Horowitz, Battery Ventures, Sequoia Capital, Peter Wagner and four of the original VMware founders.
